Color Selection in Illustration and Painting

Tutorial 3 with Bonnard Template – Exercise 1

Step 1
Open the Bonnard template. You may download the template here.



Step 2
Hide all layers except for L1. Choose a color for the background rectangle. Here we chose a blue.



Step 3
A palette is created from the blue, range 30. A dark color is chosen, and layer L2 is filled using the special layer coloring method.





Step 4
Fill L3 and L4. L3 is filled with a gray, a 15 range from the blue. L4 is filled with a darker gray, a 15 range from the color just used.





Step 5
Fill L5 and L6. L5 with a lighter blue and L6 with a green, both from a 15 range from the blue.





Step 6
Fill L7 and L8. L7 with a pink, a 15 range from the blue. L8 with a brown, a 15 range from the color just used.




Step 7
Fill L9, L10, L11, and L12. L9 with a darker brown, a 5 range from the brown. L10 with an aqua-blue, a 10 range from the blue. L11 with a similar blue, a 5 range from the color just used. And L12 a brighter red, a 15 range from the blue.





Step 8
Fill L13 and L14. L13 with and orange, a 10 range from the color just used. L14 with a light blue, a 15 range from the blue.





Step 9
Fill L15 and L16. L15 with a green, a 5 range from the blue. L16 with a light pink, a 15 range from the darker pink.





Step 10
Fill L17, L18, and L19. L17 with a similar green, a 5 range from the green. L18 with a blue-green, a 15 range from the color just used. And L19 with an even lighter pink, a 10 range from the light pink.





Step 11
Fill L20 and L21. L20 with a light orange, a 5 range from the color just used. L21 with a light blue, a 15 range from the blue.





Step 12
Finally, fill L22, L23, and L24. L22 with a blue-green, a 15 range from the blue. L23 with a darker green, 5 range from the green it touches. L24 with a bright purple, 5 range from the blue.
